1. Our commitment
At MV Therapies, I am committed to providing a respectful, inclusive and non-judgemental therapeutic environment where every client feels heard, valued and treated with dignity.
As a trainee psychotherapist and practitioner, I recognise the importance of equality, diversity, inclusion and social justice in counselling and psychotherapy. I aim to create a safe space where clients can explore their experiences without fear of discrimination, prejudice or judgement.
2. Equality and non-discrimination
I welcome clients regardless of their age, disability, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion or belief, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship status, family circumstances or socioeconomic background.
I will not discriminate against or treat anyone less favourably because of their identity, personal circumstances or beliefs. I am committed to respecting individual differences and recognising the impact that discrimination, inequality, trauma and marginalisation can have on mental health and wellbeing.
3. Inclusive therapeutic practice
I recognise that every client is unique, with their own experiences, values, strengths and needs. I aim to adapt my therapeutic approach appropriately and collaboratively, respecting each client’s autonomy and right to make informed decisions about their therapy.
I will:
- Listen with empathy, openness and respect.
- Avoid assumptions and challenge my own biases and prejudices.
- Respect clients’ cultural backgrounds, identities, beliefs and lived experiences.
- Recognise and work sensitively with the impact of discrimination, exclusion and inequality.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and recognise the power imbalance within the therapeutic relationship.
I strive to ensure that I do not impose my personal beliefs or values on clients, and I remain committed to reflecting on my own assumptions and biases to support an inclusive, respectful and non-judgemental therapeutic environment.
4. Accessibility and reasonable adjustments
I aim to make my services as accessible and inclusive as reasonably possible, including through online and in-person therapy options.
Where appropriate, I will discuss reasonable adjustments with clients to support their participation in therapy. I will consider individual needs relating to disability, communication, accessibility, culture and other circumstances.
Please note that my in-person therapy location is not fully accessible to people with mobility difficulties. Where access to the premises may be a barrier, I can offer online sessions as an alternative to help ensure that clients can access my services.
If I am unable to meet a client’s needs safely or competently, I will discuss appropriate alternatives or referrals.
5. Professional responsibility and development
I recognise that inclusive practice requires ongoing reflection, learning and professional development. I will use clinical supervision and relevant training to reflect on my practice, develop cultural awareness, recognise potential biases and address issues relating to equality and discrimination.
As a trainee psychotherapist, I will work within my competence and follow the relevant ethical standards and requirements of my training organisation and professional bodies.
6. Feedback and review
I welcome feedback from clients about their experience of my services and any barriers to accessing therapy. Any concerns about discrimination or exclusion will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if necessary, to ensure it remains relevant to my practice and professional responsibilities.
